A functioning circular economy requires a great deal of experience and in-depth process know-how. We are proud of the fact that we started doing this back in 2000, at a time when there was much less focus on sustainability debates. Compounds made from recycled material from con-pearl are absolutely equivalent in quality to those made from virgin material. We also achieve unusually high recycling rates: con-pearl lightweight boards consist of approx. 70% recycled material, which not only saves valuable raw materials, but also avoids CO2 emissions – protecting both the environment and your budget. We are implementing further significant reductions in climate-relevant emissions by using 100% green electricity for our production processes.

At our recycling site in Leinefelde, Thuringia, recyclable materials made from polypropylene (PP), the base material for con-pearl lightweight boards, are collected, cleaned and compounded into new granulate. These compounds are used for the company's own production of lightweight sheets and films and also supplied as raw materials to customers in the plastics processing industry. In the meantime, con-pearl recycles 20,000 tons of material annually, 15,000 tons of which flow into its own product cycle and 5,000 tons of which are marketed externally.

In addition to recycling, the added value cycle also includes reuse. End products made from con-pearl lightweight board, such as logistics boxes, can be used for an average of 10 years in tough everyday conditions and can often be repaired by us. Only when a reuse or repair no longer makes sense is the product given a new lease on life: Take-back, recycling, new product – closing the circle.

Wherever a lot of movement is involved, con-pearl can score points with ease, for example, in the transport logistics sector, where we have been supplying load compartment floors and linings for commercial vehicles for many years, or in container logistics, where, in addition to weight and stability, volume reduction during empty transportation is of crucial importance.  In the construction industry, the weather resistance and structural properties of con-pearl lightweight boards are additional benefits.

Compared to conventional materials such as wood and metal, the con-pearl twin-wall sheet is particularly lightweight – combined with strong properties such as high stability, robustness and weather resistance.

The secret of the special properties of con-pearl® lightweight boards lies in the perfect interplay between the formulation of the compounds and the three-layer structure.

The middle dimpled sheet of the trilaminate provides the desired thickness and volume; the two outer sheets provide stability and determine the external appearance. Even the compounds are precisely tailored to the customer's wishes and requirements, including, for example, the strength and flexibility of the material and its UV resistance in addition to the choice of color. The con-pearl lightweight boards are always individually optimized for their intended use and therefore have properties that conventional materials do not have. This extends to the perfect edge finish, which can also be rounded for safe handling – in a quality that sets standards in the industry. In many cases, you can dispense with wood, cardboard or metal and therefore significantly improve the environmental balance through the circular economy.

We have been producing high-quality lightweight polypropylene (PP) sheets under the name 'con-pearl' since 1990. The company con-pearl GmbH emerged from friedola-Tech GmbH. At that time, con-pearl was one of the first companies in the world to recognize the special potential for industry and the environment and to produce such twin-wall boards made of PP on an industrial scale.

Thus began the triumphal march among car manufacturers, which were finally able to dispense with heavy wooden materials in the interior. We continued in the packaging and logistics area. Another important part of the success story is the company's own recycling management, which was made possible by the acquisition of the Leinefelde recycling site in 2000.

Basically, there is no such thing as 'the' con-pearl board, but rather an infinite range of possibilities that make it possible to adapt the board to the respective application, starting in our own laboratory, where the recipe for the base material with its desired properties is developed individually. If the board is to be used outdoors, UV resistance plays a major role. Or should it be as stable and rigid as possible? Additives are used here.

We design and dimension the structure of the con-pearl board as a trilaminate in such a way that exactly the desired properties are achieved. In addition, reinforcement can increase the surface load-bearing capacity and can maximize the load-bearing capacity and temperature resistance. Of course, RAL or Pantone® colors can also be selected. The desired surface properties and appearance can be customized with embossed structures or individual printing – there are virtually no limits to creativity. It is also possible to laminate PP fabrics directly and combine different materials using coextrusion. Incidentally, con-pearl boards can be further processed without any problems, e.g., by cutting, lasering, milling and punching.
